The world premiere of the musical comedy Only a Lad, based on the songs of the 80's rock band Oingo Boingo, will be presented as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC.  Presented by Westin Productions, it will open Saturday, August 12th (2:45PM) at the Harry De Jur Playhouse at the Henry Street Settlement (466 Grand Street).

Only a Lad is "the story of Johnny, a punk teenager living in 1984 America.  He lives in a world of black, white and wild imagination. When Johnny is accused of murder, he must not only prove his innocence, but also his worth. Like the music that inspired it, Only a Lad challenges the audience to face difficult themes such as alienation, rage, youthful angst, love and lust, all the while maintaining a dark camp and sharp wit," according to production notes.

"With a book by Andrew Loschert, the musical captures the angst that defined a generation through the offbeat and impassioned personality of Johnny, who slams his head against the walls of polite society and fights for acceptance on his own terms."

Rob Seitelman will direct and Jason Summers will choreograph the show. The 15-member cast includes: Barrett Hall (Johnny) most recently seen in this season's Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway musical I Love You Because; Joey Calveri (Ray), who returns from Las Vegas where he performed the role of Galileo in Queen's We Will Rock You at the Paris Hotel; Victoria Dicce (Mary), who has been seen in Homeric Hymns and Penthesilea at the Lyric Theatre of New York; Todd Lawson (Riley), who has been seen in Summer and Smoke on Broadway; and Tessa Faye (Linda), who last appeared in the BMI Songwriter's Workshop at the Manhattan Theatre Club.

The cast will also include Jenny Weaver (Frank), who has performed in MINE (Theater Row); Jon Rosen (Wolf, Judge, Principal Kellerman), who starred off-Broadway in Hank Williams: Lost Highway; Stephen Wilde (Max/District Attorney)  who played Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Marc Connelly in the Peccadillo Theater Company's Off-Broadway hit Talk Of The Town; and Rachel Eve Moses; Jennifer Hallie Rosen; Matthew Skrincosky; John Halbach, Thom Miller, Eric Shelley and Alan Shaw.

Jennifer Westin will produce and Mary Ann Ivan will serve as music director.  Although the music in the show is used with permission, Only a Lad is not affiliated with Oingo Boingo or Danny Elfman.

The show plays: August 12 at 2:45pm, August 13 at 9pm, August 20 at 3:30pm, August 23 at 9:15pm and August 24 at 9:30pm. All tickets are $15. For tickets, visit www.FringeNYC.org or call (in New York): (212) 279-4488 or (outside New York): 1-888-FringeNYC . The total running time is 2 hours, 30 minutes.
