New Musical TESTIFY to Hold Developmental Reading in Nashville
Brooke Tansley directs the reading, which blends gospel and doo wop with contemporary musical theatre.
Testify, an original musical with music and lyrics by Ricky Braddy and a book by Brooke Tansley and Ricky Braddy, will receive an invitation-only developmental reading August 30 at Nashville Jazz Workshop in Nashville, TN.
Inspired by the personal stories of the men at its center, Testify follows three gay men and a progressive Christian pastor who once imagined lives in music but found those paths altered by rejection, expectation, faith shift, and the pressure to hide parts of themselves. When their lives unexpectedly intersect through music, what begins as a collaboration develops into a brotherhood that changes what each believes is possible for himself - and what they might offer others together.
The original score blends gospel and doo wop with contemporary and traditional musical theatre. The reading will feature Braddy, Ryan Greenawalt, Wil Merrell, and Ray Waters. Tansley will direct this reading. Testify is produced by Brooke Tansley.
