As part of our Emerging Playwrights Reading Series, please join us on Saturday, March 7 th , 2009 at 2:00 PM for the First Annual Douglass Turner Ward Playwriting Award, to be presented by the Negro Ensemble Company to a graduating BFA senior or MFA Graduate from the Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing, the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.

This year, the playwriting faculty of the department has chosen ANTOINETTE NWANDU to be the recipient of this $1,000.00 award for her play, "Flat Sam." Antoinette received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her graduate degree from NYU. FLAT SAM will be directed by veteran director and NEC alumnus, Seret Scott, at the ABE BURROWS THEATRE in the Tisch Building, 721 Broadway (Broadway and Waverly).

Douglas Turner Ward will also be honored and will present the award to Miss Nwandu. At the conclusion of the reading, there will be a brief discussion of the play by responders from the Dramatic Writing Program and the Negro Ensemble Company.To learn more about this this event and upcoming programs visit www.necinc.org.
