By: Sep. 25, 2015

Mark Osterman, photographic process historian at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography, will give an illustrated lecture here this Saturday. He will talk about techniques Alexander Gardner used in both the studio and the field during the American Civil War.

Osterman is a leading authority on 19th-century photographic technique and has taught the wet-collodion negative and albumen printing processes for more than 25 years. Come to the lecture and be sure to check out original apparatus from his personal collection!

Historian Richard Lowry discusses his book The President and the Photographer: Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Gardner, and the Images that Made a Presidency. The author will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase on site following this gallery talk.

Meet at the exhibition entrance on the second floor, north galleries.
