Imagine experiencing the vivacity and energy of Broadway's theater district during its golden age! Imagine walking past the most significant places in Irving Berlin's life: the sights that inspired his greatest songs, the theaters that housed his hit shows Annie, Get Your Gun and Call Me Madam, and the townhouse where Berlin spent the last years of his life! Imagine walking the path that famed composer Adolph Green walked daily en route to meet his musical writing partner Betty Comden, while no doubt piecing together lyrics in his head for the duo's famous shows Singin' in the Rain and Wonderful Town!

Applause Theatre & Cinema Books celebrates the release of noted New York cultural critic Howard Kissel's new book, "New York Theater Walks: Seven Historical Tours from Times Square to Greenwich Village and Beyond," at the Drama Book Shop on December 19.  Howard will be available to discuss New York's unique theater history, his research for the self-guided tour book, and his personal experiences as a theater critic for the New York Daily News

The book release event takes place Wednesday December 19 at 6PM at the Drama Book Shop (250 W. 40th St).

"Trapping New York's theatrical history within Manhattan's storied street grid, Kissel's seven self-guided walking tours offer theater aficionados the experience of these rushes of glory and so many more. Kissel takes the reader throughout Manhattan, framing American theater history with the buildings and street scenes that shaped it. Broadway anecdotes abound in this entertaining guide. It is for visitors to the city looking to stray from the beaten path, as well as for the native theater lover who wants to experience the theater district of Manhattan as it once was," explain press notes…

"Featuring beautiful photographs by Brent C. Brolin and seven detailed street maps, New York Theater Walks is not your average tourist book. Instead, it offers readers—whether they are walking down 42nd Street or are curled up on the couch at home—the chance to experience theater history firsthand.  Including walks through the East and West Village, as well as the Upper West Side, Kissel's guide offers the ultimate theatrical Manhattan experience, woven with commentary from an acclaimed critic and author."
