New York City Center, one of the city's premier cultural institutions for dance and musical theater, is New York's first performing arts venue to sell tickets directly to iPhone users via its new, free iPhone app. The app, now available in Apple's iTunes app store, provides up-to-the-minute performance and ticket information on City Center's world-class performances and enables users to purchase tickets without a computer.

iPhone users can buy tickets for all City Center performances, including the acclaimed Fall for Dance Festival, Encores! musical theater series, Manhattan Theatre Club, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, and Paul Taylor Dance Company, among many others.
Shortly following the initial launch, buyers also will be able to scan tickets directly from their iPhones when they arrive at City Center for their performance.
In addition to performance details such as casting and background information, the app features special ticket offers, videos, photos, artists' profiles, behind-the-scene interviews, blogs, educational initiatives and the ability to share details with friends on Facebook and Twitter. It also provides information on neighborhood restaurants, parking and directions.
"By simplifying the ticket buying process and providing interesting and informative details about our performances and artists, City Center continues to make the performing arts accessible and welcoming to new and existing audiences," stated Arlene Shuler, President and CEO of New York City Center.

NEW YORK City Center (Arlene Shuler, President & CEO) has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city for more than 60 years. It was Manhattan's first performing arts center, dedicated by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in 1943 with a mission to make the best in music, theater and dance accessible to all audiences. Today, City Center is home to many distinguished companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Paul Taylor Dance Company and Manhattan Theatre Club; a roster of renowned national and international visiting artists; and its own critically acclaimed and popular programs. The Tony-honored Encores! musical theater series, now in its 18th season, has been hailed as "one of the very best reasons to be alive in New York." Dance has been integral to the theater's mission from the start, and dance programs, including the annual Fall for Dance Festival and a partnership with London's Sadler's Wells Theatre, remain central to City Center's identity. City Center is dedicated to providing educational opportunities to New York City students and teachers with programs such as Encores! In Schools and the Young People's Dance Series. Special workshops cater to families, seniors and other groups, while events such as the Fall for Dance DanceTalk series offer learning opportunities to the general public.
