Bistro Award winner Liz McCartney, recently seen in the Tony® Award winning musical South Pacific, joins the cast of Nighttime Traffic, a part of this season's New York Musical Theatre Festival. McCartney won the Backstage Bistro Award for her musical tribute to Rosemary Clooney, Rosemary & Time, and is best known for her work in Boy George's Tony nominated musical Taboo.
The new musical, with music, lyrics and book by Alex Wyse, will be directed by Michael Lluberes. Lluberes helmed The Boy in the Bathroom, the 2007 NYMF award winner for Most Promising New Musical. Performances begin September 28 at 8:00 p.m. at Urban Stages. The cast also features Matt Dengler (A Little Night Music) and Jacob Hoffman.
According to NYMF, "When Max and his boyfriend, Calder, find themselves in a hospital awaiting Calder's heart transplant, a nurse supplies them with a mind-altering pill that slows time, turning one minute into one hour. Fueled by a sweeping contemporary score, Nighttime Traffic follows three characters through a world of thumping music, altered perceptions and unanticipated inspiration as they spin minutes into moments and search for solace in unsettling times."
Performances are scheduled for September 28 at 8:00 p.m., September 29 at 4:30 and 8:00 p.m., October 2 at 8:00 p.m., October 3 at 1:00 p.m., October 5 at 4:30 p.m. and October 10 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets now on sale at www.nymf.org.
