NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt Teases the Possibility of More SMASH; LA BOMBSHELL Concert in the Works

According to Entertainment Weekly, we might not have seen the last of NBC's Smash.

Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, made a recent appearance on Variety's Stagecraft podcast, discussing his career as a New York theater producer as well as NBC's more theatrical pursuits. One such project is the much-beloved and much-maligned Smash, starring Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee, which Greenblatt says "may have invented the concept of hate-watching."

"Interestingly enough, I hear more about people loving Smash now than I ever did when it was on the air," he says on the podcast. "We've been thinking about different ways to think about a stage musical based on Bombshell or Smash." (Bombshell being the Marilyn Monroe-centered Broadway musical within the show, which spawned its own album including songs like "Let Me Be Your Star.")

Greenblatt continues, "That's all I'll say. There's an incarnation which could sort of combine both. ... You may not have seen the last of Smash yet. I think the next incarnation will be on stage."

He also revealed that a concert version of Bombshell will arrive in LA next year.

SMASH was a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and heartbreak of the Broadway theater as it follows a cross-section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire - to be a Broadway star. The series stars Emmy Award winner Debra Messing ("Will & Grace"), Oscar winner Anjelica Huston ("Prizzi's Honor"), Jack Davenport ("Pirates of the Caribbean" films), Tony Award winner Christian Borle ("Peter and the Starcatcher"), Katharine McPhee("American Idol"), Megan Hilty ("9 to 5: The Musical"), Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan ("Newsies"),Andy Mientus("Spring Awakening"), Leslie OdomJr. ("Leap of Faith") and Krysta Rodriguez ("Spring Awakening").
