Essex Street Market Block Party - May 20th

Throughout the month, participating organizations will present programming open to the public from walking tours (Merchant's House Museum, The Tenement Museum, Museum at Eldridge Street) to art exhibits (City Lore, ABC No Rio, Neighborhood Preservation Center, The Clemente Cultural Center) to film screenings (Anthology Film Archives, WOW Cafe Theatre). Signature community event The State of the LES (facilitated by Carlina Rivera and hosted by Downtown Art) will take place on May 23rd and participating organizations (New Museum, New York Theatre Workshop) will also host open conversations and panel discussions around immigration throughout the month.

All are invited to participate in LES Stories on May 5th and May 6th, making community history visible by chalking the neighborhood streets! LES Stories is inspired by Ruth Sergel's public art project, CHALK, commemorating the 146 garment workers who lost their lives in the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and has been a successful kick-off to LES History Month for the past four years.
