Morgan James Makes Joe's Pub Debut 11/19

Straight from a Saturday matinee and evening performance of the Broadway revival of Godspell, in which she sings the popular "Turn Back, O Man," songstress Morgan James will make her debut at the newly renovated Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) with her 7-piece rock n' soul band on Saturday, November 19 at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 at www.joespub.com.

Having sold out NY nightspots such as Birdland, Dominion, Le Poison Rouge, and Rockwood Music Hall - James takes on the celebrated Joe's Pub! A talented, versatile vocalist with an amazing range, her rich sound brings to mind Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Eva Cassidy. She has been called "utter perfection... her vocal expertise was almost painfully beautiful. She could sing every style and genre of music flawlessly." An electrifyingly eclectic singer, James - who never does the same set twice - with her own soulful original writing style, along with fresh arrangements of soul and blues standards. She'll be backed up by Chris Fenwick (piano), Mark Vanderpoel (bass), Joe Abba (drums), Paul McGilloway (guitar), Dan Levine (trombone), Tatum Greenblatt (trumpet), and Sean Nowell (sax).

Morgan comes to Godspell directly from the original Broadway casts of Wonderland (where she covered, and played closing weekend performances as Alice), and The Addams Family. Most recently she garnered rave notices as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls at Barrington Stage Company, directed by Tony Award winner, John Rando.

Her discography includes the Broadway cast recordings of Wonderland, The Addams Family, and the recently released Elf; the concept albums of The Little Princess and Tears from Heaven, and is featured on several composer and artist albums. Morgan was a featured soloist in Bernstein's "Mass" with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, performing at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center, and can be heard on their Grammy nominated recording (Naxos).

As a solo artist, she has played to sold-out audiences throughout New York City with her band, and is working on an album.

Her regional and concert credits include Arizona Theatre Company, Kansas City Repertory Theatre., Barrington Stage Company ("The Human Comedy"), Paper Mill Playhouse, Eugene O'Neill Theatre Conference, The Wilma Theatre, Two River Theatre Co.

In addition to her theatrical career, Morgan can be seen and heard in numerous commercials, voice-overs, and recordings, including the original cast recordings of "Wonderland" and "The Addams Family", and featured on "(Sorta) Love Songs", Paul Loesel and Scott Burkell; "Chasing the Day", music of Will Van Dyke; and "What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up", the music of Scott Alan, (among others). Morgan trained at The Juilliard School, and is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and the Screen Actors' Guild.

Originally from Idaho, Morgan attended The Juilliard School in New York City where she received her BM in Voice.
