Molly Pope & Kim David Smith Headline New Year's Eve Show At Pangea

Downtown's decadent-loving delinquents Molly Pope & Kim David Smith team up for the first time to reinvent New Year's Eve. Their first ever Champagne-soaked joint escapade, "No Thrill from Champagne" -- with Tracy Stark on piano -- will ring in 2018 in back-to-back shows at Downtown's alternative supper-club Pangea. The special double-decker night of delirium will definitely swing both ways -- from the glam of yesteryear to the neo-here-and-now -- with back-to-back shows at 8pm and 10:30pm.

Both shows are generously priced -- $125 for the early show and $165 for the late show. The evening includes, in both cases, a delicious 3-course dinner, and a half-bottle of Cava per person. Tax and gratuity are inclusive. (Additional beverages are not included, and are billed separately with 18% gratuity added.)

It's a merger of what The NY Times calls "one of downtown cabaret's most adventurous performers" (Pope) and "this generation's Boy from Oz" (Smith). Simultaneously outré and sophisticated, Pope and Smith clearly know their way around a standard, tip-toeing fearlessly to places Porter, Coward and Marlene could only have dreamed of.

Among Pope's many awards are a 2016 Bistro Award, and the 2016 MAC Award for Musical Comedy. She recently recorded her first album, "An Aundience with Molly Pope," live at Joe's Pub. The "slyly subversive" Smith (according to The Wall Street Journal) has been called "the David Bowie of cabaret," by Broadwayworld.com. His electro-pop albums and EPs include "Nova," "Supernova," and "The Tease."

THE RUN-UP TO NEW YEAR'S EVE
As the clock ticks down on 2017, Tammy Faye Starlite brings back "Just a Kiss Away," her rock 'n roll Valentine that probes the Mick Jagger and Keith Richards songbook, for a special holiday encore. For four sold-out weeks in October Starlite focused on a different Rolling Stones album every week. This night will be a best-of sampler of all the albums she covered. A marvel of in-character improv, historical perspective, and witty social commentary all rolled into one, Starlite is not to be missed. Thurs Dec 28 at 7:30pm. Cover is $25

Also impossible to miss... The New York icon and indomitable blues mama Baby Jane Dexter shares her ample gifts, which, despite several recent health set-backs, continue to burn with volcanic intensity. She rings out the old year in "Baby Jane Dexter Is Back," with Ross Patterson on Sat Dec 30, at 7pm. Cover is $20

Pangea, which The NY Times recently called "a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by," has been programming music and performance since January 2015.

On New Year's Eve, Pangea hosts "No Thrill from Champagne," an ALL-frills night of merriment headlined by Molly Pope and Kim David Smith. It's New York's most inclusive party ever, as Pope and Smith raise our spirits while they raise our little roof! Both the early show at 8pm (priced at $125), and a late show at 10:30pm (just $165) are dinner-inclusive, with a half-bottle of Cava per person.

For information, or to order online, visit www.pangeanyc.com or call 212/995-0900. Pangea is located at 178 Second Avenue (between 11th & 12th Streets).
