Mike James Headlines COMEDY FOR A CAUSE at Villa Siena Tonight
Mike James, the 2013 National Comedians Guild Best Act and the Corporate Entertainers Association Comedian of the Year, will headline an evening of laughs, auctions and dinner to raise funds to be distributed throughout the Valley by the East Valley Women's League (EVWL), tonight, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at Villa Siena, 890 W. Elliot Road in Gilbert.
Individual tickets are $100 and corporate sponsorships are available by registering online at www.evwl.org. The evening event includes silent and live auctions, a raffle, dinner and drinks and the performance by James, who has appeared on The Tonight Show and Comedy Central and can be heard on Sirius/XM.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund EVWL's charitable programs and for scholarships awarded by the nonprofit East Valley Women's League for:
• single moms wanting to go back to school and attending Maricopa Community Colleges;
• ASU students through an endowment fund with the ASU Foundation; and
• the Anything is Possible Scholarship through a collaboration with the Tempe Union High School District for students who provide service to the community, participate in extracurricular activities, demonstrate financial need and are in the "academic middle" with a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
EVWL, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, also provides funding and volunteer support for Camp Soaring Eagle, Chemo Companions, Homebound Women's Project, Children's Cancer Network, Mind and Body Escalante Center, Packing for Success, SEEDS for Autism and Teenage Parent High School (TAP).
EVWL's signature event is the Cinderella Affair, an annual prom-dress giveaway for high school juniors and seniors statewide. This year's Cinderella Affair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on five successive Saturdays (March 21, 28 and April 4, 11 and 18) at the organization's new permanent location, 411 N. McKemy in Chandler.
