Michael Winograd Trio Performs At The Jewish Museum 7/28

Tickets are still available for the Thursday, July 28 at 7:30 pm concert by the Michael Winograd Trio at The Jewish Museum. The ensemble - clarinetist Michael Winograd, accordionist Patrick Farrell, and trombonist Daniel Blacksberg - presents a fresh approach to klezmer music that blends traditional Yiddish songs with new compositions.

This performance is part of The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights concert series, which concludes on August 4 with Hazmat Modine, drawing on eclectic elements from 20th century American music.

Brooklyn-based clarinetist/composer Michael Winograd has performed with SoCalled, Frank London, Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird, the Klezmer Conservatory Band, Michael Alpert, Alicia Svigals, and the Xylopholks. He also leads Michael Winograd's Infection, the Michael Winograd Klezmer Ensemble, and Pop Phenom Yiddish Princess. Winograd has performed at such international festivals as KlezKamp, KlezKanada, the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow, the Klezmer Workshop in Paris, the Winnipeg and Calgary Folk Festivals, and the Dawson City Music Festival.

Patrick Farrell is a Brooklyn-based accordionist, composer and bandleader who has been described as a "wizard" by Feast of Music and as a player of "mordant wit and blistering speed" by Lucid Culture. He leads the circus/new-music/comedy group Stagger Back Brass Band, and is a member of the chamber/folk group Ljova and the Kontraband and the Panorama Brass Band, the Mardi Gras season parade outgrowth of Panorama Jazz Band of New Orleans.

Daniel Blacksberg is a trombonist who works inside and outside the boundaries of jazz, creative and new music and Jewish music. Known as one of the premiere trombonists in the world of klezmer, he has performed with Frank London, Michael Alpert, Adrienne Cooper, Alan Bern, Aaron Alexander, and the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra.

The 2011 SummerNights concert series has been funded by a generous endowment from the William Petschek Family.

Public Programs at The Jewish Museum are supported, in part, by public funds from by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State's 62 counties.
