Michael Higgins, NY Stage Actor Passes Away at 88

The New York Times has reported that stage actor Michael Higgins passed away on November 5th in New York City from heart failure. He was 88 years old.

His many stage credits included such well known works as Antigone, Romeo and Juliet, The Lark, Reunion, Antony and Cleopatra, Molly and The Iceman Cometh. He won two Obie Awards and a Drama Desk Award nomination for his work. He was also a member of the original Broadway company of EQUUS.

Michael Higgins was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 20, 1920. Mr. Higgins made his Broadway debut in "Antigone" starring Katharine Cornell.

His film credits include "The Stepford Wives" (1975), "The Seduction of Joe Tynan"(1979) and "Fort Apache, the Bronx" (1981).

Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife Elizabeth, three children, Deirdre, Sean, and Christopher, and four siblings, Hugh, Thomas, Marie, and Anna.
