Fresh off a two-year stint as the standby for Elphaba-one of musical theatre's most vocally challenging roles-in the hit musical Wicked (First National Tour), Merideth Kaye Clark is now releasing a solo album: Young Stellar Object. Performing the leading role over 150 times in 30+ cities, Merideth still spent many hours a week waiting backstage for her chance to be painted green. She put this spare time traveling the country with Wicked to use, writing and recording a folk-pop album that channels her unique experience of a life being lived on the road.

The term Young Stellar Object is borrowed from astronomy, to describe a star that is not yet fully formed. This title serves as an apt description of a performer waiting to play the starring role at a moment's notice, and compliments the cosmic-themed imagery found in many of the songs ("Beautiful Silence"; "Trip to the Moon"; "Stars"; "Dawn"; "Shine On").

The album's nine tracks highlight Merideth's voice, as well as the talent of musicians from across the country and in the traveling orchestra of Wicked. Produced, engineered and mixed by Ricky Marson, the instrumental scoring is richly textured with guitar, piano, bass, cello, mandolin, harmonica, trumpet and percussion. Clark and Marson previously teamed up to create Girl Robot, an original YouTube musical (http://girlrobot.tv). Both are alumni of Emory University. Released on July 22, 2010, Young Stellar Object is now available for digital download at iTunes, Amazon and meridethkayeclark.com.
