Melissa Van Der Schyff, Claybourne Elder & More Set for SINGLE at 54 Below, 6/5

By:

54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Melissa Van Der Schyff (Bonnie and Clyde) Claybourne Elder (Bonnie and Clyde, Venice), Catherine Porter (Next to Normal, The Music of Andrew Loydd Webber, The Brian May band, Sunset Boulevard) Allie Schultz (Grease, You're the One that I Want) and Ryan Duncan (Alter Boyz, Shrek) in "SINGLE" on Thursday 5th June 2014. 7pm.

"SINGLE" is the musical journey of Leah Levine, a 35-year-old successful, single divorce attorney who is unfulfilled in her work and constantly chooses the wrong men!

On her journey, we see Leah grow in her personal life, through haunting flashbacks to the airline pilot who broke her heart and predictably married a stewardess to the tattooed drummer who she casually dates. But will she make it with Jacob, the heart surgeon who she constantly sabotages by always looking backwards instead of to a bright future? Each man has a life and a story and, even better, a song!

Musical Director and keys: Daniel A. Weiss (Let it Be, Taboo, Rent, Without You), Guitar: Thad DeBrock (Spring Awakening). Drums: Gary Seligson (Billy Elliot, Wicked), Bass: Mike Visceglia (Bruce Springsteen, Avril Lavigne).

Songs from Single the Musical play 54 Below (254 West 54th Street) on Thursday June 5th at 7pm. There is a $35 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.

Karen has always written songs, although it was while working as a portrait artist that Gary Kemp and Jess Bailey from Spandau Ballet encouraged her to spend some time in the studio and to focus on her music. They, like many others, loved the heartfelt honesty and sincerity of her lyrics, which are warm and can always be related to. Karen writes with great humor, mostly about her adventures with the men she has met and what it is to be a woman today.

In 2007 Karen toured with Take That at Britain's largest arena, the O2. She worked in the studio with Yoad Nevo, (producer to Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Jem) and Stephen Lironi, (Jon Bon Jovi, Hanson).

Looking for a different way to bring her songs to the world, Karen went to New York in 2009 to develop a musical, Therapy Rocks. Therapy Rocks was staged at the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival. The run was sold out and then extended. Karen is now in talks about further productions, both for the stage and screen, and will continue to write songs and to bring them to new audiences.
