Megan Hilty to Star in NBC's Musical Pilot - SMASH!

Megan Hilty has nabbed the coveted lead role in Steven Spielberg's new NBC pilot Smash, an ambitious drama about the mounting of a Broadway musical alongside Debra Messing. The pilot, produced by DreamWorks TV and UMS, follows a cross section of characters who come together to put on a Marilyn Monroe musical on Broadway. TV writer/playwright Theresa Rebeck wrote the script for Smash and is executive producing with Spielberg, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of DreamWorks TV, Hairspray producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and Grammy and Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who will pen original songs for the show. Michael Mayer (American Idiot) is directing. This has been a passion project for new NBC chief Bob Greenblatt who first developed it at Showtime.

Megan received a Drama Desk Award Nomination, Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination and LA Ovation Nomination for her portrayal of Doralee in Broadway's 9 to 5 the Musical. A native of Seattle, Megan moved to New York City after graduating from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University and quickly thereafter, made her Broadway Debut as Glinda in Wicked. Megan went on to perform that role in the National Tour and in Los Angeles.

Among her television credits are: The Untitled Adam Carolla Project (Pilot), Melissa & Joey, Bones, The Closer, Desperate Housewives, CSI, Shark, Ugly Betty, Eli Stone and The Suite Life of Zach & Cody. Megan's voice can be heard on Disney'sThe Secret Life of Magic Gourd, Phineas & Ferb, Glen Martin DDS, American Dad, and as the singing snow white in Shrek the Third, as well as numerous appearances on national television shows.

Upcoming her voice will be heard as Tinker Bell in Disney's TV Special Tinker Bell & The Pixie Hollow Games. Film credits include The Bitter Feast and the short film The Happiest Man Alive opposite Justin Chambers. Megan is currently shooting Dorothy of Oz.
