The 15th annual "Broadway on Broadway," New York City's free outdoor cabaret, to be hosted by Tony Award-winner Martin Short (Fame Becomes Me, Little Me), will be held in Times Square on Sunday, September 10 at 11:30 a.m.
"This year's production will feature select performances from almost every musical currently running on Broadway, and then some! In addition to perpetual favorites, attendees can expect a sneak peak at several upcoming shows scheduled for the 2006-2007 theatre season," promise press notes for the event.Host Martin Short said, "When they first asked me to be the host of 'Broadway on Broadway,' I thought my publicist was stuttering. Having said that, I'm thrilled to join all my fellow hard-working stage performers at this great event. As I always say, performing in a Broadway musical is never easy. But if you cast it properly, there's someone in the chorus who is."More than 50,000 spectators are expected in Times Square to watch musical selections from popular favorites, including Avenue Q, Beauty and the Beast, The Color Purple, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Drowsy Chaperone, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, The Producers, Rent, Spamalot, Tarzan, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Wedding Singer and Wicked.
