The Freeman Studio, the Tribeca-based acting studio led by Scott Freeman, continues to supplement its acting curriculum with an unusual mix of panels, talks and workshops in May. The so-called extracurricular activities, which give actors a rich environment in which to broaden creatively and even experiment, include free industry panels and talks, and low-cost workshops called Saturday Specials. Most of these add-ons are led by notable theatre artists, are either free or low-cost, and are open to the public.

This Saturday, April 26 at 6pm, the popular "Actors Aloud" panel talks welcomes Marin Ireland and Terry Kinney, two vibrant, award-winning actors in the thick of their careers. Co-moderated by NY Theatre Workshop casting director Jack Doulin and Scott Freeman, the conversation will go much farther and deeper than enumerating accomplishments, though those are clearly plentiful with Ireland (Tony nom for "Reasons to be Pretty," recurring roles in Homeland, etc.), and Kinney (founder Steppenwolf Theatre, pivotal role in Oz, Tony nom in "Grapes of Wrath".) This will be the fourth of the series which has already featured Judith Ivey, Jayne Houdyshell, Maria Dizzia, Suzanne Bertish, Anatol Yusef, Lois Smith, and Amanda Quaid.

On Saturday May 17, 12noon to 2pm, the hyper-busy Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger take part in an discussion led by Scott Freeman exploring the possibilities of self-created content on the Web and the intersection of self-promotion and genuine creative content development. "Creating a Webseries: 'Submissions Only'" is a free event, in which Andrew and Kate discuss how they grew their series, now in its 3rd season and playing on Broadwayworld.com. The show's cast and guest stars reads like a virtual who's who of the Broadway stage: Santino Fontana, Chita Rivera, Kristen Chenoweth, Bobby Cannavale, Danny Burstein, Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, to name but a few.

Both of these events are free to the public, so reservations are highly recommended by visiting www.thefreemanstudio.com. The Freeman Studio, 79 Leonard Street, is between Broadway and Church Street. For more information call 212/802-8111.

Now, throughout May, The Freeman Studio offers a new crop of affordable Saturday workshops. Called "Saturday Specials," these sometimes practical, sometimes iconoclastic explorations deliver a wide-range of perspectives and practices in a number of disciplines... Also led by a revolving roster of notable theatre artists working in multiple fields, they include: "Clowning" with Lucas Caleb Rooney (Sat April 26, 12n to 2pm, $20); "Acting in Independent Film" with film director Tom O'Brien (Sat May 3, 12n to 3pm, $30); "The Art of Presence: A Movement Workshop" with Annie Piper (Sat May 10, 12n to 2pm, $20); "A Passion for Ideas: An Acting Workshop" with Janet Zarish (Sat May 31, 12n to 3pm, $30).

Open to actors at all stages of their careers, these congenial extracurricular classes emphasize the community-supportive values that run through all Freeman Studio classes, which in most cases are by audition. To register, e-mail info@thefreemanstudio.com, and for information visit www.thefreemanstudio.com The Freeman Studio, 79 Leonard Street, is Tribeca between Broadway and Church Street.
