Following five years of sold out houses on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre, Benny Andersson/> and Björn Ulvaeus' global hit Mamma Mia! toasted the New Year with its best week ever and a new house record at the Winter Garden Theatre, grossing $1,478,292.13 for nine performance for the week ending December 31st, 2006.

The previous Winter Garden box office record was held by Mamma Mia!/> with a gross of $1,381,822. for the week ending January 1, 2006.

The figure also marks a new Mamma Mia! U.S. weekly box office all time record, besting the hit musical's previous U.S. tour record gross of $1,414,030. for the week ending August 3, 2003 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, California.

There are currently 11 productions of the musical running around the world (9 resident productions and 2 tours). With three productions playing in North America alone, Mamma Mia!/> can be experienced in six different languages globally (English, Swedish, Spanish,  German, Japanese and Russian).   The show has earned a worldwide gross of over $1.6 billion and audiences of over 27 million people worldwide.
