Lemon Andersen Teaches Spoken Word Intensive At Stella Adler 5/31-6/10

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting announced today that Lemon Andersen will teach a spoken word intensive class at the Studio from May 31- June 10, 2011. A master of the spoken word and urban poetry, Andersen is an incredibly versatile artist and a phenomenally talented Shakespearean actor. Students will begin by exploring character driven poems and working on the art of reading poetry off the page. Ultimately, students will explore the musicality of spoken by writing and performing an original piece driven by contemporary character.

"We are thrilled to have Mr. Andersen share his talent in this spoken word intensive," said Tom Oppenheim, Artistic Director of Stella Adler. "He is a master of language; he is using language in a hip, young way that contributes toward revitalizing young people's sensitivity to words, speech and communication."

Mr. Andersen is an original cast member of Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, which took home the Tony Award for "Special Theatrical Event" in 2003 and the Drama Desk nomination for "Unique Theatrical Experience." In 2010, Andersen performed County of Kings produced by Spike Lee and the Culture Project at The Public Theater. The book based on the show is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2010 New York Book Festival.

Andersen's film acting credits include The Soloist, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx, as well as Spike Lee's Miracle At St. Anna, Sucker Free City, She Hate Me, and he appeared opposite Denzel Washington in Inside Man. His theater credits include Slanguage, which was directed by Jo Bonney and premiered at the New York Theater Workshop to rave reviews and sold out shows.
