Lea Delaria, last seen in Paper Mill's A Midsummer Night's Dream, will fly to Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.) for a concert. She will perform on August 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th at 11:30 PM.The performer will be backed by the Dirty Martini Band. "Under the musical direction of pianist and
composer Janette Mason, they cover a brilliant and campy selection of
titles from the 'Music For A Bachelorette's Pad' album, including 'An
Occasional Man', 'I'm Gonna Live 'Till I Die' and Doc Pomus' 'Señor Big
And Fine,'" according to Joe's Pub notes. "Music for a Bachelorette's Pad" 'includes songs by soul sisters Mable John and
Lavern Baker, brooding torch songstresses Chris Connor and Ann
Richards, jazz royalty Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae, groovy
instrumentals by ultra cool cats Herbie Mann and Barney Kessel, as well
as Lea Delaria's 'Call Me' and 'Welcome To My Party,' who also brings
her own take on a Dirty Martini recipe, recorded especially for the
album."DeLaria,
who is known for her high energy and expansive stage presence, won Obie
and Theatre World Awards for her Broadway debut performance as Hildy in On the Town. She has since appeared on Broadway in The Rocky Horror Show, as well as off-Broadway in The Vagina Monologues, Little Fish and Happy Days, and at Encores! in L'il Abner. Chicago, Once Upon a Mattress and Cinderella are
among other theatrical credits. She is also known as a stand-up comic
and a jazz singer; "Play It Cool" and "Double Standards" are her solo
recordings.
