Joan Myers' ART & MOVEMENT Photo Exhibit on View at Anytime Dance Studio/Gallery of the Arts, Now thru 9/7

By: Aug. 17, 2013

An exhibit of images by Joan B. Myers, award-winning photographer and Long Branch native, will be on display from today, August 17 through Sept 7, 2013 at Anytime Dance Studio/ Gallery of the Arts. Joan would like you to envision photography and dance as sharing the common element of movement.

Joan is known for composition and design that moves you into the photograph, so plan on stepping into each photograph and escaping from reality for a moment. An example of movement in photography is three time award-winner, "Snowy Excitement." The judge stated "Photographer took a landscape and made it about snow and movement.... more ephemeral approach which adds something to the photograph." Snowy Excitement" was recognized by Judge Ricardo Barros in the Guild of Creative Art, 7th Annual Open Juried Photography Show. Mr. Barros is an internationally known artist, education and mentor. Barros, an accomplished photographer, has had photography shows reviewed by the New York Times. (Please see attached photos)

Moving into summer, the photographs will have a coastal theme.

Joan received an M.A. in Human Development from Farleigh Dickinson University in 1987. She also completed the photography option in film and digital photography at Brookdale Community College where she received an A.A.S. She became interested in digital photography and was introduced to Laurie Egan, photographer, poet and novelist. Joan has studied with Ms. Egan since 2009. Joan has also been mentored by Bob Yellen, CBS Outdoors.

Joan's work focuses on pristine composition, vivid color, shapes, patterns, and altered perceptions. Light and color stimulate her visual perception the most. Historical places such as Officer's Row, Fort Hancock at Sandy Hook and the former Life Saving Station No. 5 at the Takanassee Beach Club intrigue her interests.

Joan has exhibited her art in many prestigious juried shows. To date her work has been displayed at the Art Alliance, Guild of Creative Art, Brookdale Alumni Association Art Show, Bayonet Farms Art Show, Belmar Arts Council @The Boatworks, Center for Visual Arts at Brook dale, Monmouth Festival of the Arts, Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Science, Ocean County Artist's Guild, and Monmouth Museum.

Anytime Dance Studio's gallery is located at 104 Brighton Avenue, in Long Branch, NJ. The opening reception will be held on Sunday, August 17, 5:30pm to 7pm. The exhibit will also be available for viewing Sunday, August 18, 3-5pm. Appointments are available "Anytime", and you may contact the artist directly at www.joanbmyersphotography.com.
