Internationally celebrated composer Andrew Lloyd Webber joined iconic West End stage star Elaine Paige for her BBC Radio 2 show Elaine Paige ON SUNDAY this week and touched upon a wide range of topics, including his thoughts on bringing his PHANTOM OF THE OPERA sequel, LOVE NEVER DIES, to the US.

Lloyd Webber spoke candidly of the coolly-received 2010 West End production of LOVE NEVER DIES, directed by Jack O'Brien, stating, "LOVE NEVER DIES didn't work in London. I think one of the things about a musical is if you don't get the production right in every way - it's only one little thing can bring the whole thing down."

Elaborating, Lloyd Webber asserts, "I remember Hal Prince, who worked with you and worked with me, once said that, 'You can't listen to a musical if it doesn't look right.' I think that was the problem with it."
Additionally, Lloyd Webber added, "There were other issues, but I think fundamentally it didn't look like it was a happy show in that the design didn't really fit the music."

Addressing the successful Australian production currently available on DVD and Blu-ray, Lloyd Webber says, "It was done in Australia and the design did fit the music."

So, will that visually impressive and emotionally evocative edition of LOVE NEVER DIES be the show that comes to Broadway someday - or, at least the US?

Lloyd Webber relates, "The plan is now for that production to try one more time out in Japan, and then if that works, the production will go to America."

LOVE NEVER DIES and neither does the second life of the spectacular sequel to PHANTOM, apparently!
