WWD reported that the announcement of Alessandro Michele, currently Gucci's head accessory designer, will take over as creative director is imminent. Michele would be filling the shoes of Frida Giannini's after her early departure last week and has up until now been the front runner for the job.

Other names in the "who will it be?" rumor mill have been Richard Tisci and Hedi Slimane. Neither seem as likely or as certain as Michele especially since he made his first appearance on the runway on Monday.

Gucci has not commented on the appointment but WWD reports it is slated for Wednesday, January 21.
