Patti Lupone, ghosts and a gigantic pink elephant!

Two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Patti LuPone joins with opera diva Patricia Racette for the new Los Angeles Opera production of THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES and a new series of production photos of the pair in the elaborate and visually splendrous new production is now available available to view.

James Conlon will conduct, while Darko Tresnjak will direct the new production of the first part of the special FIGARO UNBOUND series, which also will feature Christopher Maltman, Lucas Meachem, Lucy Schaufer and more.

The official description of THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES is as follows: "Trapped in the spirit world, the ghost of Marie Antoinette bitterly reflects on her final suffering. Her favorite playwright tries to entertain the melancholy queen with the continuing adventures of his beloved characters from The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. But sneaky Figaro refuses to play by the script, breaking free from the opera-within-the-opera in a surprise bid for a better life."

THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES runs February 7 through March 1, 2015.

Of note, THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES will be presented as the first part of the FIGARO UNBOUND trilogy of operas by Beaumarchais, which also includes THE BARBER OF SEVILLE and THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO.

More information on FIGARO UNBOUND and the rest of the 2014/15 LA Opera season is available at the official site here.
