The Daily Mail has confirmed that Imelda Staunton will be taking on another very strong personality on the London stage. The GYPSY star has signed on to play the infamous 'Martha' in Edward Albee's WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?

The Tony-winning play was last seen in London in 2006, starring the 2005 Broadway revival's leads Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin as Martha and George, respectively. Staunton will be joined by Game of Thrones star, Conleth Hill, who will be taking on the role of George.

The new production will begin performances on London's West End at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Previews begin on Feburary 22nd, 2017 with an official opening on March 9th.

This news comes on the heels of the unfortunate passing of the play's revered playwright, Edward Albee, last week.

Imelda Staunton's previous stage work includes her Olivier-award winning turn in GYPSY, A Delicate Balance (Almeida Theatre); Entertaining Mr Sloane (Trafalgar Studios); Life x 3, The Beggar's Opera, Schweyk in the Second World War, Guys and Dolls and A Chorus of Disapproval (Olivier Award winner) (all National Theatre); Fair Maid of the West and They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (RSC);The Corn is Green (The Old Vic); The Wizard of Oz (RSC); Uncle Vanya (Vaudeville) and Into the Woods (Phoenix Theatre, Olivier Award winner).
