Honens International Piano Competition Set for April 30, May 1

Nineteen pianists from five countries will perform in the New York rounds of the Quarterfinals of Canada's Honens International Piano Competition on Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music's Mary Flagler Cary Hall (450 W. 37th Street, between 9th and 10th Aves.).

Each pianist will perform a 40-minute solo recital made up of his or her choice of repertory. Admission to the Monday, April 30, sessions is free of charge. On Tuesday, May 1, admission is $7 per session or $15 for a day pass. Tickets are available at honens.com.

In addition to New York, the Quarterfinals/International Audition Round of the Honens Competition will take place in London (April 2 at The Guildhall School of Music), Berlin (April 4 and 5 at the Konzerthaus), and Los Angeles (May 10 at the Colburn School).

These public performances are recorded on video for review by the Artist Selection Panel (First Jury), made up of both pianists and arts professionals, which will view the performances during deliberations at The Banff Centre in June. Ten pianists will be chosen to advance to the Semifinals/Recital Round in Calgary. The Artist Selection Panel is made up of William Aide (pianist, Canada), Leila Getz (Founder, Vancouver Recital Society, Canada), Charles Hamlen (Chairman, IMG Artists, United States) and Benedetto Lupo (pianist, Italy).
