The program and shows have been announced for the New Island Festival, an international arts festival coming to New York's Governors Island from September 10-13 and again from September 17-20. The festival will kick off the fall with provocative theatre, stunning site specific performance, dazzling visual arts and exhilarating DJ sets, performed by world class Dutch performers. More than 150 artists will perform during the festival. Governors Island is easily accessible via a free and very short ferry ride that departs lower Manhattan regularly throughout the day.

The New Island Festival brings the greatest elements of European outdoor performing arts festivals to Governors Island. It will combine works that have previously been featured in the world-renowned Dutch "Oerol" and "De Parade" festivals and provide opportunities for artists to create site-specific works on the island. All of Governors Island will be the stage for the Dutch, who will utilize the waterfront promenade, historic homes, barracks and open green spaces to re-imagine this island in the middle of New York harbor. The New Island Festival marks the first time Governors Island has been open at night.

The New Island Festival features a variety of free theatre, music and dance performances. However, to experience the full range of theatrical productions and events, the festival recommends the purchase of a $35 all-access one-day Passport. Upon arrival on Governor's Island, patrons who pre-purchased a Passport will proceed to the box office on the "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," show their email receipt, and are issued their Passport for the day. Box office staff will suggest a program of shows and events taking place at the festival that day. Free show tickets will be provided by the box office exclusively to Passport holders on a same-day, first-come, first-served basis.

Passports will be available to pre-purchase online on Monday, August 17th at www.NewIslandFestival.com.

The New Island Festival is part of NY400, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage from Amsterdam to New York Harbor, and commemorates 400 years of enduring friendship between the Netherlands and the United States.
