Harry Connick Jr. to Surprise Audience with Hollywood Bowl Concert Set, 8/13 & 8/14

With a major performance at the Hollywood Bowl quickly approaching, Broadway veteran Harry Connick Jr. recently gave the LA Times some insight into his upcoming set list - or rather, non-insight - as there isn't one. Connick revealed that he prefers not to plan ahead for performances. As he once said in regards to his recent Broadway engagement, "It would kill me if anyone who saw this show twice saw the same thing." 

While his concert will include different songs for each performance at the Hollywood Bowl, Connick will definitely be incorporating classics from his Grammy-nominated album, 'Your Songs'. The album, which was produced by Clive Davis includes songs by Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and many more. 
On his collaboration with Davis, Connick remarked,"He told me he thought I should take really familiar songs that everybody knows and just be a singer. These are songs I normally wouldn't touch, only because they were so well done by the original artists. But the novelty of it was intriguing to me." Also expected in the performances will be a combination of jazz, big band, and romantic ballads for which he his best known.  Connick added, "I'm just doing my show. Nothing's scripted."

When asked about the rumors about American Idol, Conninck said, "They asked if I would ever be interested in being a judge, and I said yes," Connick says. "I had a great time. I grew up in an environment in which there was a lot of mentoring going on. Ellis Marsalis was the greatest teacher anyone could ever have, and I like the excitement of clinics and master classes. I like creative environments."
