Emergency Theater Project presents the world premiere of Ashlin Halfnight's Mud Blossom at Walkerspace (46 Walker ST). Kate Pines directs, as three generations of women, Corinne Edgerly, Jennifer McCabe and Liz Myers. Previews begin April 12 with opening night set for April 14.

Playwright Ashlin Halfnight was a 2005/2006 Fulbright Award winner and an artist in residence at The National Theatre of Hungary. His play God's Waiting Room was named Best Play at the 2005 New York Fringe Festival. Ashlin is the recipient of a 2007 Theater Communications Group Travel Grant.

"In Mud Blossom madness, cruelty, and betrayal linger in the muddy fields surrounding three generations of women living in a rundown farmhouse in the rural South. They struggle to pay the bills, live right, and hold their family together in a world that is fast becoming incomprehensible and dangerous, particularly for Camille, the youngest. In an effort to get clear of the mistakes her mother and grandmother have made, Camille sets off for the Canadian border, thousands of miles north, with a knife, a black eye, and secret. Mud Blossom tracks Camille's passage from the blindness of childhood to the startling reality of her family, her house, and the world around her," state press materials.

Co-Artistic Directors, Kate Pines and Joya Scott, of Emergency Theater Project offers this joint statement, "Now in our third year, we at Emergency are thrilled to have the opportunity to present the world premiere of Mud Blossom, by Ashlin Halfnight - a play with remarkable complexity, beauty, and simplicity - featuring three dynamic and fascinating generations of women. We have been knocked out by the magical landscape that Halfnight has created, as well as his preternatural ability to write real, recognizable, deeply troubled women battling with a world that has all but given up on them. We couldn't be more excited to share the newest work of this talented young playwright with all of you."

The design team includes Jesse Poleshuck (scenic), Sarah Laux (Costumes), Sarah Jacubasz (lighting) and Bridget M. O'Connor (sound). Andrea Wells serves as Production Stage Manager.

Beginning Thursday, April 12 Mud Blossom will play Mondays through Saturdays at 8pm with an additional show Sunday, April 28 at 2pm. Dark on Sundays.
