HYMN FOR THE EARTH By Matthew Sklar & William Schermerhorn To Be Released for Earth Day
Matthew Sklar is a composer known for Broadway works including The Prom, Elf the Musical, and The Wedding Singer.
Hymn for the Earth, a choral work with music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by William Schermerhorn, is being highlighted in celebration of Earth Day on April 22. The composition was commissioned following a proposal by Judith Clurman, who sought to create a piece reflecting themes of environmental awareness and shared responsibility.
The work was later recorded by Clurman and Essential Voices USA for the album Listen to the World, extending its reach to audiences through performance and recording. The composition is available through Hal Leonard and can be performed either as an a cappella arrangement for mixed chorus or with string accompaniment.
Hymn for the Earth was conceived as a tribute to the natural world, addressing both its beauty and vulnerability while emphasizing collective stewardship. The piece reflects a broader effort to engage performers and audiences in conversations about environmental responsibility through music.
