Everything's coming up roses at the St. James box office. According to The New York Post's Michael Riedel, it's current inhabitant, Gypsy, brought in $425,000 on the day after it received glowing notices from the critics and scored over $1 million dollars this past weekend.

Gypsy tells the classic musical tale of the legendary stage mother of Gypsy Lee Rose and June Havoc, a woman who drove her two daughters into show business with a misguided and terrifiying passion. The much beloved musical is a journey that travels from the slowly fading vaudeville venues of yesterday to the  backstages of it's often unseemly replacement, the strip-tease house. Gypsy stars Tony Award winner Patti LuPone as the emotionally towering Mama Rose. The Broadway production began previews at the St. James Theater on March 3rd and officially opened March 27th. Gypsy reunites LuPone with co-stars Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti from last summer's critically acclaimed Encores! Summer Stars City Center production. Gypsy is directed by it's co-creator Arthur Laurents.

Tickets for Gypsy are $117.00 - $42.00 and are available through Telecharge at (212) 239-6200 or www.telecharge.com or by visiting the St. James Theatre box office. Premium seating is available. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m
