Green Day & Reba McEntire Nab American Music Award Nominations, Michael Jackson Dominates

The 2009 37th Annual American Music Award Nominees have been announced and pop icon, the late Michael Jackson dominates the pool with five nominations, alongside Taylor Swift who garnered six. Green Day, whose show, An American Idiot is enjoying a sold out run at Berkeley Rep, was recognized in the Favorite Alternative Rock Artist category.  Broadway's Annie Get Your Gun star received recognition in Favorite Female Country Music Artist category. Music award staple Beyonce Knowles, who starred as Deena Jones in the film version of Dreamgirls is celebrated with three nominations for her album I Am...Sasha Fierce.

The awards ceremony will air on Sunday, Novemeber 22 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. EST live on ABC from the NOKIA Theatre L.A.

The 37th Annual American Music Awards is produced Larrry Klein and executive-produced by OrlyAdelson. The show will feature a star-studded lineup of music's top artists and acts, to be announced shortly.

The 2009 American Music Awards honor artists in The categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational. For the third year in a row, winners will be determined by online voting at www.amavote.com and www.mycokerewards.com, which will be live the day of the nominations.

Green Day's musical American Idiot is currently playing at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and is speculated to be making a transfer to Broadway later this season. McEntire has been seen on Broadway in Annie Get Your Gun and appeared opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell in a concert performance of South Pacific at Carnegie Hall. Michael Jackson's Thriller Live Event is currently playing in London's West End through January, 2010. Beyonce played Deena Jones in the movie musical Dreamgirls and Etta James in Cadillac Car.
