Gladys Nederlander, theater and television producer and wife of George Nederlander, died yesterday. The cause of death was heart failure. She was 83 years old.

Between the years 1976 and 1993 Mrs. Nederlander had produced nine Broadway shows including the 1980 revival of West Side Story. She met her third husband, George, when she was hired to work for him in a partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Arts. In her years producing on Broadway Gladys worked with stars such as Martin Short, Bernadette Peters, Gene Hackman and Glenn Close.

In 1982 she became the president of Nederlander Productions.

She is survived by her two children from her first marriage, Steven and Terri Ann, and one grandson.
