Chunky Move’s Gideon Obarzanek brings his innovative, provocative and unpredictable genre of dance to Joyce SoHo, with the New York premiere of Faker, described as "a disarmingly personal solo work," from April 25-29 and May 2-6.  After twenty years making works for individuals, groups, and his own company, Obarzanek has created a piece for himself that exposes the expectations and disappointments, creative aspirations, and personal doubts of dance and theatre making.

Faker arose out of a two-week workshop Obarzanek undertook with a young dancer, which despite his best intentions, did not turn out as planned.  The piece begins with Obarzanek at his computer reading an email he received from the young dancer letting him know, in the most brutally honest language, her thoughts on the time spent working with him.  Frank and darkly humorous, Faker explores the dynamics of this intriguing relationship and offers a rare insight into the mind of Australia’s most acclaimed choreographers.

Chunky Move will perform at Joyce SoHo from April 25-29 and May 2-6, Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:00pm. After Hours @ Joyce SoHo, a free post-performance Q&A and refreshments with the artists, will follow the April 27th performance and will be hosted by PS122 Artistic Director Vallejo Gantner.

Tickets are $22.  Joyce SoHo’s onsite box office is only open one half-hour prior to performance time to sell tickets exclusively for that performance.  Tickets may also be purchased online at joyce.org (no service fees!), via JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or in person at The Joyce Theater at 175 Eighth Avenue at 19th Street Mon-Sun, 12 noon-6pm.  On days when there are performances, The Joyce Theater’s box office is open for advance sales up to one hour prior to Joyce curtain times and up to three hours prior to Joyce SoHo curtain times.  The Joyce Theater’s box office is closed on major holidays. Joyce SoHo’s address is 155 Mercer Street, between Houston and Prince Streets.
