Acclaimed German opera singer Catherine Gayer stars in Beyond: A Little Night Opera, premiering today, August, 12th, at the New York International Fringe Festival. It will run at the Connelly Theatre (220 E. 4th St., between Avenues A and B) through August 21st.

One of Germany's leading operatic sopranos, Gayer has performed major roles in everything from Rigoletto to Rosenkavalier in her long career with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Beyond was written as a vehicle for her by her son, composer Danny Ashkenasi, who returns to FringeNYC this year following the debut of his well-received 9/11: The Book of Job at the 2004 Fringe Festival (Ashkenasi is the only composer at this year's Fringe Festival to have had a show produced there last year as well).

Clocking in at an hour and five minutes, Beyond: A Little Night Opera "begins with a car crash. A soprano hovers between life and death. Guided by two angels who become husband, lover, son, therapist…and plastic surgeon, she journeys Beyond." Presented by Fredrick Byers Productions and also directed by Ashkenasi, the show will also star David Carson and Lance Olds. Beyond will feature a book by Helga Krauss, as well as Nick Fox on piano. Maryvel Bergen will handle the show's lighting design.

The show's performance schedule is August 12th at 5 PM, August 14th at 9:15 PM, August 17th at 4:30 PM, August 19th at 7:30 PM and August 21st at 12 PM. Tickets, which are $15, can be ordered by calling 212-279-4488.
