Freedom Train Productions is now accepting applicants for the Playwright Residency 2010 cadre who show a commitment to citizen theatre artist values. This opportunity is open to black identified writers. The residency entails: New work development and intensive workshops; Artist and community dialogue; and Performance of new work throughout the year, including FIRE! New Festival 2010.

Application materials must be received by Friday, November 20th, 2009.

Riffing off the great tradition of black theatre artists like James Baldwin and Lorraine Hansberry and contemporaries like Afro Pomo Homos and Root Wy'mn, Freedom Train Productions organizes theatre artists and audience communities around a common purpose: centering black queer protagonists in struggles that matter to all. Founded in 2006, new work development, stage reading performances, and artist/community dialectics are the current tools of our underground theatre movement. The organization is supported in part by The Union Square Arts Awards, a project of the Tides Foundation, Stonewall Community Foundation, and S/HEROES FOR THE FUTURE.
