The Guthrie presents Frank Theatre's production of Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman in the Dowling Studio. Performances begin September 20 and run through October 14.

"Veering from the macabre to the hysterical, this viciously funny and disturbingly gruesome thriller centers on a writer in a totalitarian state who is brought in for questioning when the plot lines of his stories bear an uncanny similarity to real-life crimes that have been committed in the community. Intertwining family secrets with the irrepressible power of storytelling and imagination, Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman takes on some of today's most potent issues ? from censorship and the power of the state, to freedom of speech and the rights of the individual, all wrapped in a testament to the power of the imagination," describe press notes.

The Frank Theatre's cast of The Pillowman features Jim Lichtscheidl, Grant Richey, Luverne Seifert, Chris Carlson, Patrick Bailey, Maria Asp, Aru Shiney Ajay and Kai Russell. The production is directed by Frank Artistic Director Wendy Knox, with scenery by Joel Sass, costumes by Kathy Kohl, lighting by Mike Kittel, and sound by Michael Croswell. The production is stage managed by Spencer Putney.

Preceding its Broadway premiere, the play received the 2004 Olivier Award and an Evening Standard Award nomination for Best New Play and went on to capture two Tony Awards (plus four more nominations), two Drama Desk Awards, an Outer Critic's Circle Award and a Drama Critics Circle Award.

Preview is September 20 at 7:30PM; Opening Night is September 21 at 7:30PM with performances through October 14 at 1PM.  Show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30PM and Sundays at 1PM, plus Wednesdays October 3 & 10 at 7:30PM
