The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today An Evening for Film in Education, a special fundraiser in support of the Film Society's education programs, taking place on Monday, June 19th, at 6pm in the Walter Reade Theater. The event will feature a screening and private reception to celebrate the world premiere of five short films created by students in Film in Education's Film Society Kids program. The evening is generously sponsored by the Gary Winick Foundation?, which honors the legacy of late New York filmmaker Gary Winick (13 Going on 30, Tadpole, Letters to Juliet), by supporting the next generation of filmmakers. A selection of those who starred in or collaborated on Winick's films will introduce the students and their films. Guests will include actors Steve Buscemi (Fargo, Reservoir Dogs), Oliver Platt (Bulworth, Pieces of April), and Susan Kelechi Watson (This Is Us, Louie), filmmaker Rebecca Miller (Maggie's Plan), and more.

Following the presentation, there will be a reception with food & refreshments provided by Le Pain Quotidien.

All proceeds from the evening will support the Film Society's Film in Education initiative, which provides the Film Society Kids program in local schools, as well as teacher-training filmmaking institutes for educators, community-based programs in visual storytelling citywide, and educational screenings and Q&As in our own theaters.

The films being presented at the event were voted the best of this year's Film Society Kids shorts. Launched in 2014, the program promotes the making and viewing of films in the classroom as well as students' cultivation of 21st-century skills and literacy learning through visual storytelling. Film Society Kids now serves nearly seven hundred 3rd, 4th, and 6th graders school wide at PS 163, PS 75, PS 191, The Anderson School, and The Center School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Now in its third year, the program gives students tools for an art form that inspires their voices and builds a foundation for literacy skills, and is particularly beneficial for children in English as a second language programs or who require non-traditional learning styles.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $75 General Admission and $150 Reserved Seating. To purchase tickets, please click here.
