FLY, YOU FOOLS! to Return to Edinburgh Fringe

Recent Cutbacks will present Fly, You Fools!, a live, shot-for-shot parody. Performances will run at Pleasance Courtyard, Beyond, 5 – 31 Aug 2026.

Following its critically acclaimed sell-out season at Edinburgh Fringe last year, Recent Cutbacks return with the absurdly accurate live parody of the one film to rule them all. Three actors and a Foley artist band together – in fellowship – to present an epic retelling of the first chapter of the most iconic fantasy franchise ever made, compressing 178 minutes of cinematic action into just 60. Combining live sound effects, exaggerated character impersonations and physical theatre, the performers remain on stage throughout, shifting seamlessly between roles within a ring of props. Featuring choreographed mime, shadow puppetry, and a makeshift wind machine, Recent Cutbacks returns with a show that both celebrates the fandom and remains accessible to all audiences.

Fly, You Fools! will be part of Recent Cutbacks' triple bill feature at Pleasance this August along with the UK premiere of KEVIN!!!!!, a live, shot-for-shot parody of the greatest Christmas movie of all time. There will also be a limited three day run of the acclaimed Hold on to Your Butts (Aug 12, 19, 26 at 20:30), a shot-for-shot parody of the greatest dinosaur flm of all time, which is returning to the Fringe after a sell-out run in two consecutive years.

Director and co-founder of Recent Cutbacks Kristin McCarthy Parker said, “We were completely blown away by the response to Fly, You Fools! last year. We love performing this show and are looking forward to another full season at Pleasance. Fools strikes the perfect Fringe chord of incredible artistry mixed with resourcefulness and a lot of silliness.”

Recent Cutbacks is a creative ensemble founded in 2014. They are best known for their live movie parodies that fuse humour, nostalgia, and lo-fi spectacle. Their projects invite audiences to see the world with a newfound exuberance and remind us of why we fell in love with movies, theatre, and storytelling in the first place. The company made their Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2024 with Hold on to your Butts which was held to high acclaim, transferring to London in 2024 ahead of a 2025 UK tour and subsequent off-Broadway debut earlier this year. They then returned to Edinburgh in 2025 with the sell-out UK premiere of Fly, You Fools. Other shows include KEVIN!!!!!, Next Day Thrones, There is No Spoon and the Audible Original Master Lecture Series.
