SONGS STUCK IN MY BODY is a one-woman dance-theater show that takes the audience on a romp through the residue of childhood. Combining dance, theater, songs and personal storytelling, Sarah Chien excavates the "childhood crap" rattling around in her head and her mom's midwestern basement. At once comedic and deeply personal, the show sorts through the capitalist excess, gender socialization and family heritage that we accumulate on our way to making sense of who we are.
A show meant for all audiences, Songs Stuck in My Body reminds each of us that our story is already worth telling, and that we can be simultaneously compassionate and critical as we sort through the raw material of our lives.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Sarah Chien creates improvised works with collaborators from dance, music, circus and theatre. In New York, her work has been presented at Performance Mix, BKSD, Triskelion Arts, The Brick, DanceSafari in Riverside Park and Insitu Dance Festival. She has been a company member for Andre Zachery/Renegade Performance Group, Sydnie L. Mosley Dances, Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance and performed with the Commons Choir. Her choreographic work is in constant dialogue with the generative practices (teaching, producing, training) that make up her artistic identity. Research includes developing a performance form she calls the "supported solo" and translating principles of David Zambrano's improvisation score "Passing Through" into new settings. She independently produces ¡Spontaneous Combustion! a rooftop performance party; and Floor Friends, a training network; and co-curates Symbiosis at Spectrum NYC, a dance and music improvisation series. She is part of ∞therside, an improvisation collective formed summer 2018 in Slovakia with 7 peers, each from different countries. Her one-woman-show, Songs Stuck in My Body premiered January 2019 at Triskelion Arts and is now preparing to tour.
Lauren Hlubny is the NYC Artistic Director of Danse Theatre Surreality and a founding member of Anomalous Co. Hlubny's work is highly imagistic, physical, and interdisciplinary between experts in the fields of music, dance, theatre, and circus. Hlubny has been invited to create work in Seattle at On The Boards, the Neuroscience Department at UAB, the Marigny Opera House in New Orleans, and in various museums nationwide including the Dali Museum. Hlubny's works have also toured to France and Italy. In NYC, she works as a director and acting coach on an array of projects at venues including Triskelion, Theatre 54, and BAX. She also dramaturgs by aiding choreographers in building accessible narratives. This season she is advising on an evening-length contemporary ballet by Coriolis Dance. In August, Hlubny will also be making her opera debut as a choreographer and director in the dell'Arte Opera Ensemble's La Mama season.
