The Alden Theatre will be filled with "the sound of music" when singer-songwriter Elisabeth von Trapp performs old and new favorites at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. Tickets are $30, $25 for McLean district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Music has been an integral part of Elisabeth von Trapp's life from her earliest years. Born and raised in Vermont, she is the granddaughter of the legendary Maria and Baron von Trapp, whose story inspired the movie The Sound of Music. Inspired by her father Werner's guitar playing and singing, von Trapp has carried on the legacy of the internationally renowned Trapp Family Singers. She began taking piano lessons when she was eight years old and by 16 she was playing guitar and traveling the back roads of New England performing with her siblings.

Building on her family's passion for music, over the years von Trapp has created her own artistic style, which is at once ethereal and earthy, delicate and powerful. Listeners have likened her voice to those of Judy Collins and Loreena McKennitt. Her repertoire ranges from Bach to Broadway, Schubert to Sting, which allows her to sing Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Favorite Things" and "Edelweiss," Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro," gospel tunes, pop classics and her own compositions with equal ease and eloquence. A critic from The Boston Globe said, "Before the concert is over, she will have the crowd gasping with the sheer beauty of her voice."
