Herb Smith's "From a Different Perspective" is activating the E 4th Street Cultural District's Citi Bike Station as the most recent artwork of the Asphalt Art Activation program produced by DOT Bike Share Program. The piece was supported by Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc), and curated by FABnyc Public Art Director, Keith Schweitzer. Laying a colorful foundation for the Citi Bike Station, Smith's piece is sited in the heart of the Cultural District, at the corner of East 4th Street and Second Avenue, encouraging a multi-perspective look at the block by blending street imagery with geographic identity.

The Asphalt Art Activation program has transformed New York City Citi Bike Stations since August 2013, with its first project at the Franklin Street station between West Broadway and Varick Street in Manhattan. New York City Department of Transportation's Manhattan Borough Commissioner Margaret Forgione and Assistant Commissioner of Urban Design and Art, Wendy Feuer will be on site to present the work to the press on Monday, May 30 from 2-2:30PM.

Herb Smith is a New York City artist known for his graffiti murals and classically-inspired detailed oil paintings. His work often integrates the two styles, commenting on the harmonious existence of contrasting communities. Excited to be commissioned for the project, Smith remarked, "Having the opportunity to participate and work on this block was really fun, and I hope to see more of these opportunities available for the city's artists in the future."
