EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Q&A- The Last Straw

BWW catches up with Gareth Brierley from People Show to chat about bringing The Last Straw to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about The Last Straw?

The Last Straw is a darkly comic two-hander that explores the daily digital communication overload we face. In a world stricken by disasters of varying scale, the show questions the concepts of truth, trust and tolerance, and how to navigate love and loss in the complexity of today's world.

How long have People Show been around and how was the collective formed?

People Show is the UK's longest running experimental theatre collective, we were formed back in 1966! During this time we have been to Edinburgh Fringe Festival over 10 times.

What is People Show's approach to creating work?

We have a unique non-hierarchical approach to creating live performance and theatre. Each of our shows is an expression of whatever and whoever arrives at the rehearsal room on day one of the making process. We take inspiration from everywhere, respond to the moment and never limit the scope of our ideas. Over the past 50 years we have created devised performances in theatres, fields, telephone boxes, streets and even on water.

Who would you recommend comes to see The Last Straw?
I would say anyone who likes theatre that loves taking risks. Also anyone who likes shows that mix comedy and drama to perfection.

What do you hope audiences take away from the show?
We hope the show allows audiences to examine the complexities of modern life whilst also being an entertaining hour of theatre!

Tickets and timing information for The Last Straw are available on the Summerhall website.
