Driscoll Babcock Galleries to Host Closing Party for Marilyn Dintenfass: DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, 1/24

Driscoll Babcock Galleries will host a closing party for MARYLYN DINTENFASS: DROP DEAD GORGEOUS (on view through Saturday, January 26), which also will celebrate The Time In Children's Art Initiative this Thursday, January 24 from 6-8pm.

Artist Marylyn Dintenfass has created 72 signed limited edition inkjet prints in support of Time In for this event. A donation of $20 to Time In will receive a Dintenfass print, with all proceeds going to Time In to provide arts-immersive curriculum for at-risk city kids. Marylyn Dintenfass, Driscoll Babcock Galleries President John Driscoll, Founder of Time In Cyndie Bellen-Berthézène, Founder/ CEO of AKArt Amy Kisch and Paddle8 will host the evening. Attendees will be able to preview the Paddle8 Time In benefit auction site as well as purchase tickets to the upcoming Changing the World Through Art-Time In's benefit gala and art auction to be held on February 18, 2013 at Marianne Boesky Gallery.

Drop Dead Gorgeous is the latest body of work by Dintenfass, whose brilliant chromatic abstractions evolve to evoke a representational narrative about nature's fatally duplicitous markers. Dintenfass' work has always embodied the unease of "nothing is ever what it seems" in life, and her newest canvases draw their inspiration from some of nature's most beautiful, but dangerous plants. A focus of the show is the Angel Trumpet flower, a ravishing and singular beauty of nature whose exquisite deadliness is iconic. Dintenfass' vibrant abstractions of the Angel Trumpet's shapes and forms conjure the plant's stunning looks, its siren-like allure, and its toxicity.

Marylyn Dintenfass is an internationally known artist whose work is found in major public, corporate and private collections. Among the institutions that have acquired her work are: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Mississippi Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her 2010 Parallel Park installation in Fort Myers, Florida is one of the largest and most noteworthy public art projects of the last decade. A two-time MacDowell Fellow, Dintenfass' work has been widely reviewed and both her 2011 and 2012 Babcock Galleries exhibitions were selected as one of the "100 Best Shows Worldwide" by Modern Painters.

The party is set for Thursday, January 24, 2013, 6-8 pm at Driscoll Babcock Galleries, 525 West 25th Street, NY, NY. Call 212.767.1852 for more information.
