In celebration of Bloomsday, the Library pays tribute to James Joyce's legacy of provocative literature through an artful lens with a vivid rendering of Molly Bloom. Light refreshments will be served.

ReJoyce with Molly is a lively enactment of Molly Bloom in the unabridged final pages of Ulysses (Penelope, Chapter 18) as Molly greets the dawn following June 16th. Directed by Catherine Taylor-Williams and featuring actress Getchie Argetsinger, this staging of the last 40 minutes of the Molly Bloom soliloquy offers the audience a glimpse of the irresistible and enigmatic wife of Leopold Bloom.

Molly's thoughts and memories affirm one of the most remarkable chapters in world literature and the uncensored, universal heart of a woman. The beloved soliloquy-astonishingly brilliant and unabashedly ribald-has a visceral energy that has captivated audiences for generations. "Molly's voice is so authentic, so compelling that she springs to life on the page," says the actress, "and it is a joy to embody her passionate, uninhibited spirit."

ReJoyce with Molly travels through the final stages of the soliloquy, where the poetry and intimacy of Molly's musings bring her love of life and Leopold to Ulysses' unforgettable climax. As Molly drifts toward sleep and The Shadows of June 16th slowly fade, a new day begins in a jubilant affirmation of the power and life force of love.

Getchie Argetsinger's acting career spans over 30 years in theatre, television and film. She has appeared Off Broadway, regionally and in several national tours. She was most recently seen in NYC in Marvell Repertory's production of God of Vengeance and in the Moses Mogilee production of Marat/Sade. Some favorite roles are Kathy in the first New York revival of The Kathy & Mo Show at the Greenwich Street Theatre, Queen Elinor in King John at the Present Company and Marina in Uncle Vanya with the Barrow Group. Film credits include a cameo on The Sopranos and the lead in the short film Broken. Ms. Argetsinger appears courtesy of Actors' Equity Association.

The New York Society Library was founded in 1754 and is the city's oldest library. In the eighteenth century, an organization labeled "Society" meant that it was open to all-available to everyone throughout society. The Library today is open to all for reading, reference, and selected events, with circulation and other services by subscription. The beautiful landmarked building dates from 1917 and includes reading rooms, spaces for study, stacks, and the Assunta, Ignazio, Ada and Romano Peluso Exhibition Gallery. The Library has approximately 300,000 volumes and hosts a variety of special events, reading groups, and workshops, as well as the New York City Book Awards.
