Director Sher Featured on 'Downstage Center,' 7/21

The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio will present an interview with Tony Award-nominated Light in the Piazza director Bartlett Sher on their weekly theatrical interview show, "Downstage Center," on XM's On Broadway (XM Channel 28). Sher will appear as the special guest on Friday, July 21 at 6 p.m. The show will repeat on Saturday, July 22 at noon, Sunday, July 23 at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, July 26 at midnight, all listed times EST.

Sher's Broadway credits include Awake and Sing!, the Tony Award recipient for Best Revival of a Play, which garnered him Tony and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations, and the Tony Award-winning musical The Light in the Piazza. For his work on Piazza, Sher was nominated in 2005 for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and he is directing the national tour, set to begin in San Francisco in August.

Additionally, as the artistic director of Seattle's Intiman Theatre, the 2006 recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award, Sher's credits include Richard III, Homebody/Kabul, Nora, Arms and the Man, Cymbeline and Titus Andronicus, Craig Lucas' The Dying Gaul, The Servant of Two Masters, Our Town, and Three Sisters.

Sher's New York credits include Waste (2000 Obie Award, Best Play), Cymbeline (2001 Callaway Award for Best Direction, Lortel and Drama Desk nominations, and first American Shakespeare production presented at the Royal Shakespeare Company), Don Juan, Pericles (BAM and TFANA). His regional work includes the world premiere of Nickel and Dimed (Intiman and Mark Taper Forum), The Light in the Piazza (Goodman Theatre), and the world premiere of Craig Lucas' Singing Forest (Intiman and Long Wharf Theatre).

Upcoming productions include The Barber of Seville (Metropolitan Opera) and South Pacific (LCT).

Each new "Downstage Center" program is regularly broadcast at 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 12 a.m. (all times EST).
