Designer Emilio Sosa Named Chair Of The Hispanic Organization of Latin Artists

The Hispanic Organization of Latin Artists has appointed Emilio Sosa as Chair of HOLA and the HOLA Awards. A six-time Tony Award nominee, Emmy-nominated Costume Designer, educator, producer, and nationally respected arts advocate, Sosa steps into the role at a pivotal time for Latino artists and creatives across the entertainment industry. His appointment signals HOLA's continued commitment to expanding visibility, opportunity, and authentic representation for Latino voices in theater, television, film, fashion, and emerging media.

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the Bronx, Sosa has built an extraordinary career that spans Broadway, Hollywood, and beyond. His acclaimed work includes Topdog/Underdog, Porgy and Bess, Motown: The Musical, On Your Feet!, 1776, Ain't No Mo', Good Night, Oscar, Sweeney Todd, and A Beautiful Noise. His television and film credits include Descendants: The Rise of Red, Annie Live!, and The Great Lillian Hall.

Sosa most recently served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the American Theatre Wing, the organization best known for co-presenting the Tony Awards. Throughout his career, he has remained a passionate advocate for arts education, mentorship, and creating pathways for emerging artists.

Founded in 1975, HOLA has spent five decades breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes while advancing Latino representation throughout the entertainment industry. Today, HOLA continues to empower artists through professional development, educational programming, networking opportunities, advocacy initiatives, and the annual HOLA Awards.

As the organization enters its next fifty years, HOLA has expanded its identity from the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors to the Hispanic Organization of Latin Artists—reflecting a broader and more inclusive vision that embraces performers, writers, directors, designers, composers, and creative professionals across all disciplines.

“HOLA has been a vital force in creating opportunities for Latino artists and advancing authentic representation throughout our industry,” said Sosa. “My goal is to grow the organization while honoring its extraordinary legacy of service. Together, we can expand our reach, strengthen our community, and create even greater opportunities for future generations of artists and storytellers.”

For nearly five decades, HOLA has served as a bridge between talent and opportunity, advocating for equity in an industry where Latino artists remain significantly underrepresented despite representing one of the fastest-growing cultural communities in the United States.

Sosa's relationship with HOLA spans decades. Previously honored with HOLA's prestigious Ilka Award for Advocacy, he has long championed authentic storytelling, cultural visibility, and access to opportunities for underrepresented communities.

Under his leadership, HOLA will continue to build on its legacy as one of the nation's leading Latino arts organizations while expanding programs that support education, empowerment, professional development, and artistic excellence.
