Denzel Washington has won the 2017 SAG AWARD for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for FENCES. Washington and Viola Davis reprised their roles in the big screen adaptation of August Wilson's 1983 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play FENCES. Washington also directed the film, Earlier in the evening, Davis picked up a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

FENCES is directed by Denzel Washington from a screenplay by August Wilson, adapted from Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play. The film stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney. The film is produced by Denzel Washington, Todd Black and Scott Rudin.

The 2010 Broadway production of FENCES was produced by Scott Rudin and starred Washington and Davis. The show received Tonys for best revival of a play, best actor in a play (Washington) and best actress in a play (Davis). Stephen McKinley Henderson also received a Tony nomination as best featured actor in a play.

Washington's other Broadway credits include A RAISIN IN THE SUN, JULIUS CAESAR and CHECKMATES.
